Lip PMU aftercare, the first 10 days
Four critical rules, proper aftercare determines pigment retention and the richness of the final color.
7 to 10 days, water, sweat, cosmetics
Lip aftercare is especially critical, blot gently after eating and drinking, no lip cosmetics for 7 to 10 days. Do not pick the crust.
Balm 2 to 3 times a day
Salon balm in a thin layer 2 to 3 times daily. Excess balm is also bad. Lint-free wipes can be used gently.
14 days, sun, tanning beds, sauna
UV destroys lip pigment quickly, avoid for 14 days completely. After that always use an SPF balm before going outside.
6 to 8 week touch-up is mandatory
Lip tissue is the most regenerative skin in the body, part of the pigment naturally fades. The touch-up completes and evens out the final result.

Lip blush, full color, or watercolor, which technique is for me?
Lip blush is the lightest, soft graduated color edge-to-center, ideal for natural everyday look. Full color saturates the entire lip, more like a permanent lipstick effect. Watercolor sits between the two, soft pigment with custom intensity. Most clients pick lip blush as the first PMU, with the option to add intensity at the touch-up. How long does lip PMU last?
2 to 3 years. Lips are the most regenerative skin in the body, food, drink, and speech wear at the pigment daily. An annual touch-up keeps the color at full intensity. Without yearly maintenance the color fades softly into a tinted look that's still flattering.
PRE-CHECK: pregnancy, herpes history, allergies
Lip PMU is NOT performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. **If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), antiviral prophylaxis is mandatory** starting 2 days before the session, the trauma of the procedure can trigger a flare. Tell us at consultation. Also disclose: blood thinners, accutane within 6 months, recent lip filler. We do a patch test for sensitive skin or allergy history.
Is the procedure painful?
Lips are sensitive, the numbing cream is mandatory not optional. The cream takes 20 to 30 minutes to take effect, then the actual pigment application feels more like a sharp tickle or pressure than pain. The session takes 2 to 3 hours total but the most intense part is about 60 to 90 minutes.
What happens during healing?
7 to 10 days of crusting and slight swelling, this is normal. Color initially looks intense, then lightens, the final color settles 4 to 6 weeks later. Do not judge the result in the first week. Strict no-water/no-sun/no-cosmetics for 7 to 10 days. The 6 to 8 week touch-up fills any color gaps the body's natural process leaves behind.
